I Brought You 1,000,000 Winter Flowers
Spring 2007

There is a feeling that though he is there with me, right beside me, he can never understand the world that lays at his feet. It blinds him and he is too worried and afraid to explore it. Try as I might I cannot entice him; the lines and dots of my drawings and the pink and red of my love do not woo him.

This reality brings a level of pain to the piece, and the treatment of the materials reflects this feeling. For example, the hand stitching over parts of the hair make a violent row of x's (Figure 7). Forms are pulled and pressed together, simulating a tangled and sorry web of ribbons and felt. The girl's eyelids, looped with large diagonal threads, seem pained and tired, as if the effort is becoming a burden. Large, ominous oval shapes peek through the background like eyes, an uneasy presence in such a bright setting.
